SPEECH

by

YB DATO` SRI AZALINA DATO` OTHMAN SAID

Minister of Tourism, Malaysia

IN CONJUNCTION WITH

“XTREME INTERNATIONAL AUTOSHOW 2008”

Distinguished Guests

Ladies and gentlemen

Members of the Media,

BIsmillah Hirrahman Nirrahhim.

1.   On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia, I would like to thank the organizer for inviting me to say a few words in conjunction with the Xtreme International Autoshow 2008.

2.   This is a special occasion for Malaysia, as the country places strong emphasis on motorsports as part of our sports tourism development.

3.   I am made to understand that this event which will be held from 26 -28 December showcases the largest gathering of modified cars held in Malaysia. Among them, custom and modified cars from USA, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Germany.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

4.   The potential of sports as a catalyst to spur further tourism growth in Malaysia has proven by the successful hosting of several mega events such as; the Formula 1, A1, Le Tour de Langkawi, the World Cup Equine Race, Monsoon Cup and many more.

5.   Under the able leadership of the Barisan Nasional Government, these sporting events have raised the image of Malaysia as a World-Class Sports Venue.

Nonetheless, I know that there are others out there who are envious of our success and would like to emulate us.

6.    As the Xtreme International Auto Show is constantly introducing new creations and new technology, it would be nice to see these modifications inspired by elements of concerns for the environment.

7.   Perhaps next time we will be able to see future car models modified beyond just for speed and power, but also showcase cleaner and environmentally–friendly (greener) vehicles as well.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

8.   Before I conclude, I would like to congratulate the Organiser for the initiative in hosting this event and wish them every success. To all our foreign visitors, I urge you to stay a bit longer after the Auto Show and make a trip beyond Kuala Lumpur to discover the wonderful sights and sounds of beautiful Malaysia.

With those words, I wish you a pleasant evening.

Thank you.
