Tourism sector needs new ideas to thrive

img_510813 November, London – “Name your price” tours may soon catch on in Malaysia as one of the innovative measures to boost the tourism industry.

“I think this would be an innovative approach as creativity is the key element for success,” said Tourism Minister YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said to Malaysian journalists after opening the Malaysia Pavilion at the World Travel Market at Excel London yesterday.

She said the world economic problems had given rise to innovative measures and every company could do a lot to be creative but must stay focused on profit-making businesses. On whether the concept which included free city tours would be practical for Malaysia, she said it was up to the private sector as the Government could only act as a facilitator.

Azalina was responding to a report by Euromonitor International that customers would be naming their own price or expecting to have for gratis a major slice of the product or service, as they weighed up their getaway options during these squeezed market times.

A total of 113 participants including Langkawi Geopark, Selangor, Terengganu, Tourism Perak, Penang Tourism and Sabah took part in the exhibition – the main pavilion featuring an eco-tourism village longhouse.

Azalina said the ministry would focus on budget travellers and that it was untrue people would not travel during trying times.

She said the number of British tourists to Malaysia rose by 36.1% to 303,569 during the first 10 months of this year.

    Dear Tourism Minister,

    Tourism Promotion concept

I am attaching two ad images with caption etc.

You will observe from them that

    • The ad targets the family tour.
    • Appeal is with emotion –any person would wish to do something like this to his / her parents.
    • Most of Indian women are Housewife and every affordable family would love to enjoy a tour. It would be a great relief to them. The demand will be from the ladies side also one would love to oblige. According to the quantum of affordability the tour package will vary. Either short stay or long stay.
    • The ad appeal would bring in lot of tourist from India and neighbors since the Ladies desire for some relief.
    • The tourist would love to visit and stay where he can live with nature and where he feels his stay is safe .Added advantage would be highlighting facilities viz decent hotel, tour plan and facilities health attention.
    • India + would be a big market for you. The target communities would be Affluent Sardars, rich Marwaris and Gujaratis , a South Indian IT section who get very good salary and can easily afford to send their parents for such a tour( people from Bangalore and Chennai/and enterprising Coimbatore regions)
    • The ad during father’s day/ Mothers day would also bring lot from US/Europe.
    • Besides the tourism promotion, it would give more business to ‘Malaysian Airlines’.
    • If you find this useful you may pay me.

I am sure you would like the idea and please reply.

    Regards
